This book explores the idea that love can be quantified, predicted, and optimized through AI—but beneath that concept, it feels like a deeper commentary on the human need for real connection and companionship.
While the premise centers on technology measuring compatibility and giving advice to improve relationships, the story ultimately highlights the limits of that approach. There’s a tension between what can be calculated and what has to be felt, and the book leans into that contrast in a touching way.
Danny and Eve’s motivations, shaped by their past, add an emotional layer that grounds the more abstract ideas. While I liked that the AI itself functioned almost like a character, contributing to meaningful interactions rather than just serving as a tool, at the end of the day the interactions of the human characters were what drove me to keep reading.
That said, the non-chronological timeline didn’t always work for me and occasionally made it harder to stay fully engaged with the story. I also wanted some spice. But overall it was a wonderful book and a great commentary on how important connections are.
Overall, it’s a unique take on romance (and technology) that makes a strong comment about how love can never truly be reduced to data—and that human connection will always be something more.
Abby Jimenez fans will love this one.
